Privacy Policy
Troop 407 is committed to respecting and protecting the personal privacy of its members and those who visit its Web site. It is our policy to acquire personal information from users only by overt means, only when it is in the interest of the user to provide it, and to utilize this information only for the purpose it was provided.
This website
This site collects anonymous data that is not typically indicative of and cannot be traced to an individual without the cooperation of their Internet Service Provider. This data includes information about the user’s remote IP address, referral data (which page “linked” to the present request), and the browser software’s user-agent string. This information is accepted passively from the HTTP headers that are sent from the user when requesting any file from the server. Other anonymous data entered by the user may be collected in a common repository, including terms entered into the search engine or the contact form.
The anonymous information collected is used to monitor the usage of this Web site and the interests of those who use it. Data such as the volume of traffic to the server, the number of visitors a certain section of the site receives each month, or the most popular search terms are analyzed to derive general statistics about the site’s reach and the audience’s usage patterns.
The troop
Troop 407 collects personally-identifiable information that is necessary to administer and track membership and participation by its members. We collect information required by the Boy Scouts of America to register individuals for membership and for activities that the troop participates in, such as campouts and outings. This information is passed directly to the Boy Scouts of America via our local council, the Michigan Crossroads Council, where it is treated in accordance with council and national privacy policies. Membership information, including name, address, telephone, e-mail addresses, date of birth, school grade, parent information, and program-related information such as Scout rank, merit badges earned, nights of camping, patrol membership and position of responsibility history is collected and stored in a secure database administered by registered troop adult leadership using the Troopmaster system. Driver and vehicle information such as driver license numbers and insurance coverage is retained and used only for the purpose of notifying the local council when filing a tour plan as required by BSA policy.
All personal information is used only for troop administrative purposes only and is never shared with other Scouting units or outside of the Boy Scouts of America. It is never used for any commercial purpose and our lists of members, addresses, telephone numbers and e-mail addresses are never sold or given to outside parties.
E-mail addresses provided by members may be added to an e-mail distribution system for disseminating information to troop membership. By providing us with an e-mail address, members agree to be added to this distribution system. Members may modify or delete their subscriptions to this system at any time by following the instructions in any message.
A printed troop membership roster will be distributed to members periodically. Roster information will not be made available online for download or reading.
Youth protection
The privacy of our youth members is of utmost importance to Troop 407 and the Boy Scouts of America. It is our policy to never have unmonitored or unsupervised one-on-one contact between a youth member and an adult. Youth members contacting adults by telephone are advised to do so in the presence of others. Adults communicating with youth members via electronic means such as e-mail or social media are advised to include another adult, such as the youth’s parent or a registered adult leader, in the communication.
Boy Scouts of America has extensive practices in place to protect youth. Please visit the Youth Protection section of the BSA website for full information. Troop 407 observes and follows all BSA youth protection requirements and recommendations.
Troop 407 does not collect information directly from youth via this website. Personally-identifiable information for our youth members is obtained only from their parents or guardians. Youth members may, however, proactively register for one or more e-mail discussion and notification services operated by Troop 407. Discussion on these services is monitored for appropriate content. Information distributed by the troop or published on this website is in compliance with the Chidren’s Online Privacy Protection Act.
As the parent or guardians, you acknowledge and agree and give permission for photos and the first name of your Scout to be used freely for the Troop’s purposes, including a web gallery maintained under the novitroop407.org domain, or any other legitimate purpose. In addition, you acknowledge and agree that, while efforts will be made to limit or prevent any information containing last names in connection with photos, some information might be indirectly made available as set forth above.
You also acknowledge and agree that, should a likeness of your Scout be used by Troop 407 or published in local newspapers or other media, no compensation shall be due and owing to you for the use of such likeness.
